Thank you for your feedback on the Thomson Reading Room.
We certainly acknowledge that there have been behavioural issues in the Reading Room this semester, which is disappointing. They relate not only to noise and misuse of access privileges as you highlight but also to the food and drink policy. We are currently speaking to the Students' Association about how best to tackle these problems in the New Year.
Additional signage and more staff on patrol may help (though there are constraints on staff resource) but how would you feel about spot ID checks? I have to admit we are reluctant to go down that road and feel it would be unpopular (even with legitimate users) but I’d be interested to have your thoughts.

- As a PGR daily user of Martyrs Kirk, I would absolutely be in favour of random ID checks, in particular during the revision and exam weeks, when study space is in high demand.
