Thank you for completing a library comments card and for your interesting ideas.

However I’m afraid your first suggestion is not possible – the need for personal data protection means that we would not share any information on one library user with another. The second (the forum) would not be practical and the whole point of having due dates is that they are not negotiable – provided users stick to them they ensure the fair circulation of stock.

The library circulation system is set up to deal with any issues arising and there are a series of automatic emails generated for courtesy reminders and overdue notices. Library staff also intervene daily to contact users about overdue books and chase up returns. Fines are not always an effective deterrent but there are other approaches we can take when a user is withholding library stock from a student or member of staff who has recalled it. The key message for anyone experiencing difficulties in getting hold of library resources is to contact us and we’ll do everything we can to help.

Please do get back in touch with any further thoughts or comments.

kind regards
