Thanks for filling in a Library feedback card last Monday – sorry for taking a while to reply to your comments.
You may be aware from our online LibAnswers site and Twitter feed that we have had some comments from other users who prefer the new arrangement, as well as from students with similar views to your own.
Our observation is that the sofas are still being well used despite their new location and we have said that we want to wait until the end of this week before making a final decision. We are very comfortable with the principle of more relaxed and social seating but as the footfall of the building has increased and the building is the same size as it was when opened in 1976, it’s become more difficult to accommodate everything in the same area. The University does intend to add another 350 study seats to the Main Library within a few years – these will be accommodated on Level 1 (the lower ground area, currently used for collections storage and some staff accommodation) once the Eden Campus is completed.
Thanks for the feedback on the water cooler. As far as I’m aware, this has been fixed but I’m checking with a colleague to make sure.
