Thanks for your comments card that you completed in the Library last week.
I’m glad you find the environment a positive one but note your comments about the toilet flush. I’ve asked our Building Operations team to check the flushes in all the toilets tomorrow morning before they open the building up. If there are any problems, they will report them to the University’s Estates department.
We did try 24/7 opening during exams in the 2012/13 academic year but I’m afraid it wasn’t sufficiently well used at the time to justify repeating the exercise. It is a relatively expensive thing to resource in terms of staff costs and the numbers of students actually remaining in the building were very low, particularly after around 3am. Yours is the first request we’ve had for 24/7 opening for some time which does suggest there isn’t much demand so we therefore have no plans to reintroduce it.
Please remember that the PC classrooms in Butts Wynd are open 24/7 so if you wish to continue studying when the Library closes at 2am, you can go to the PC lab. Please also remember that the free University night bus service (https://www.st-andrews.ac.uk/students/tech/bus/) stops outside the Library on North Street every half hour from 10pm to 1.30am 7 nights a week. It stops at Albany Park, DRA, University Hall and Agnes Blackadder as well as the Morrison’s, the Students’ Union building and the car park on Argyle Street.
Thanks again for your comments.
