Thanks for your comments.  It would be amazing to have a library like this at St Andrews - it's quite incredible and I do like their BookBot.  However, with a price tag of $115,000,000  when it was built in 2013, this fabulous library did not come cheaply.

The University does not currently have any plans to build a new central library facility nor to extend the Main Library in size.

There are however plans to add further study spaces in the basement of the Main Library but these can't be provided until we have relocated our general collections store and some staff accommodation to Eden Campus.

Around half of our general collections are currently held in closed storage, a necessity due to the limited size of the Main Library building.  Once the store and staff have moved to Eden Campus in late 2019, work can commence on the study space expansion but we do not anticipate this being available to students until late 2020.  Our general collections store at Eden will be browseable although we will provide a daily retrieval service as well.
