Thanks for your recent feedback on the Library’s recalls system – sorry for taking a few weeks to send you this reply.

You may be aware that until relatively recently we did indeed keep recalled items on the hold shelf for 7 days.  However, feedback from other users indicated that many felt this to be too long a period of time for the books to be unavailable to others, particularly given the fact that many held items were ultimately never collected.  We consulted both the Library User Group and the Student Library User Group at the time and each group was in agreement that the 7 day period should be reduced to 5.

You can of course contact us at any time during the 5 days to ask staff to extend the period of time that we hold an item for you.  They will be happy to do this for you providing it hasn’t been requested by someone else.  As with all of our policies, we’ll continue to keep the situation under review.
