Thanks for your recent comments on a Library You Said/We Did card – sorry for taking a couple of weeks to send you this response.  The University has a strategy of becoming as cashless as possible as the cost both in terms of staff time and administration of handling cash have become increasingly significant.  

Between March and June last year we trialled cash payments only being allowed during 10am-4pm Monday to Friday.  During that trial period there were no complaints or concerns raised by our users so we took the decision to implement a permanent non-cash payment policy in June.  Whilst I’m genuinely sorry that you have found this change in policy upsetting, yours is the first complaint that we have received about the change which suggests that the majority of our users are content.

It does seem unusual for your transaction through the online payments system to have taken 10 minutes.  If you would like to give me additional information about what specific problems you encountered I’d be happy to look into it on your behalf.

As I said at the start of my email, I regret that you’ve been so upset by this policy but I’m afraid we have no plans to revert to our previous practice of taking cash at this point in time.
