Thanks for filling in a comments card at the end of April about the bike sheds and the waste bins at the Main Library.
I’m sorry to hear that you’ve been having problems getting in and out of this space – it’s something we’ve been aware of for a while. The difficulty is finding an appropriate space for refuse containers that we have to have near the building. Since the establishment of the café in 2011 and the changing of Library regulations the year before that allowed for food and drink to be consumed inside, there’s been a significant increase in waste produced from the building.
From the start of January 2014 additional regulations came into force that require food outlets such as the café to recycle food waste so this law has required additional containers to be installed.
However, I will take the issue up with colleagues in Estates to see if a better space could be provided for refuse that doesn’t impede access to the bike shed.
Thanks again for your comments.
