Thanks for your recent comments on one of our feedback cards when you asked about outside space for non-smokers. This would be a really good thing for us to introduce but I’m afraid I can’t see it being done.
The main issue is that the University has no policy on smoking outside its buildings and it would therefore be impossible for us to enforce a smoking ban at any additional outside tables designated as non-smoking. My feeling is that the smaller tables on the south side of the building tend to be a bit less smoky than the area to the right of the front door but that’s possibly not been your experience.
Far from ideal I realise but the current arrangement is the best we can do in the absence of a perimeter smoking ban and smoking shelters away from the entrance being built.
