Thanks for filling in a Library comments card last recently – I’m sorry for taking a while to reply to your feedback.  Thanks also for your kind words about our friendly staff! 

I’m afraid Library staff don’t have access to the actual temperature readings from the heating and ventilation systems.  We also have no immediate local control over the systems and must report these problems to University Estates.  We became aware of problems with the temperature by the Thursday afternoon of that week and duly reported the matter to Estates. 

My understanding from Estates colleagues is that there was no obvious fault to the air conditioning system over that weekend but they are still looking into what could have happened.  Since then, the temperature does generally seem to be back to normal. 

I can only apologise on behalf of the University for what were clearly very difficult environmental conditions and assure you that Library staff did everything that they could at the time in question.
