Thanks for your feedback last week about power points in the Library.
Even though it might not seem like it when you’re hunting down a powered desk, the provision has actually been increased considerably in the last 3 years as part of the redevelopment project. For example, in summer 2012 the power provision on levels 3 and 4 was increased by 100%. In summer 2011, during the first phase of the redevelopment, we were able to provide power to almost every study space on level 2 although that was achieved through the introduction of a “raised floor.” The raised floor allows for power and data to be directed into the centre of the floor rather purely round the perimeter.
Unfortunately the University was unable to give us the budget required to allow for raised floors on levels 3 and 4, therefore the power points are restricted to seats away from the centre of the building. We are looking into the options for power at the roughly 265 seats currently without sockets but I can’t give you an indication of whether or not this will be viable or when they may be introduced, if at all.
Thanks for the kind words about our staff though!
