I'm afraid we have no plans to install a microwave in the Library café for general use for a number of reasons.
As you'll be aware, the café is relatively small and I think we would struggle to find somewhere to put a microwave. Unlike some other universities, our library café allows students to bring in their own food, either that prepared at home or purchased from another outlet.
This is done with the agreement of our colleagues in Residential and Business Services who run the café for students and other users. Whilst they have been supportive of our view that students should be allowed to bring food in from elsewhere, we recognise the need for the café to be commercially viable. I suspect that if we were to introduce a microwave - even if we could find space for it - it could compromise the financial viability of the café's operations.
A microwave is more suited to a common room type facility than a commercially-run café so for all of these reasons, it’s not something we’ll be introducing.
