Thanks for your feedback. As you may know, we stopped taking cash payments last summer as part of a wider University strategy to gradually reduce the volume of cash being handled by staff.
Between March and June last year we trialled cash payments only being allowed during 10am-4pm Monday to Friday. During that trial period there were no complaints or concerns raised by our users so we took the decision to implement a permanent non-cash payment policy in June. At the same time we arranged the minimum payment amount for cards to be reduced from £3 to £1.
Whilst there have been a few requests over the last year to re-introduce the facility to pay by cash, the vast majority of our users seem to have responded well to this change and we therefore have no plans to change our currenty policy.
Thank you for your suggestion of the proceeds from second hand booksales going into a tea/coffee/biscuit fund for Library staff. Lovely as this idea is, we think it's better for our users and our waistlines that we don't spend this money on biscuits, rather re-investing it as we do into the collections budget so that more resources can be bought.
