Thank you so much for taking the time to complete a "You said, We did" card recently.  It's an interesting suggestion!

I've done a very rough calculation of the time required to convert the books we have into audio format based on the following:

  • Size of our book collection - over 1 million books;
  • Estimated time required to record an ebook - 1-4 days.

Based on this I've estimated it would take between 2737 and 10948 years to complete the task - given current life expectancy, and the fundamental rules of time I fear we would fail to satisfy your request.

There is of course the question of the willingness of both Victoria Coren and Jeremy Paxman to participate in the exercise.  We also have to question whether it would be fair on the rest of the world to be deprived of a regular fix of Only Connect; granted Jeremy Paxman may have a little more time on his hands post-Newsnight, but he's still busy with University Challenge....
