Thank you for completing a Library Comments card recently asking us to encourage smokers to move beyond the Library entrance.  At present there is a smoking area to the right of the Library entrance.  In the past we had smokers more widely distributed around the building and the creation of  a dedicated smoking area has helped ensure there are smoke free spaces around the outside of the Library.

Unfortunately the University doesn't currently have a perimeter ban, preventing smoking outside buildings; without this we are unable to enforce any ban on smoking near the building.

I agree with you that for non-smokers passing by the smoking area can be very unpleasant, but at the moment we're unable to move smokers further away.

If you find people smoking near the entrance out with the dedicated smoking area, please let a member of Library staff know.
