Thank you for completing a "You said, We did" card in the Library recently asking for more power sockets and seats. The Library is often very busy and it can be difficult to find available space to study, more so if you also need a power socket!
All study spaces on Level 2 have sockets, as well as those around the perimeter of levels 3 and 4.
Unfortunately we're restricted on where we can get sockets to on levels 3 and 4 - we have a solid concrete floor on these levels, preventing us getting power to the study spaces away from the perimeter. When the Library was redeveloped we raised the floor on level 2, and this allowed us to add power to every study space on Level 2. Given the book and journal stock on levels 3 and 4, and the cost, this wasn't possible on these floors. However our colleagues in Estates are looking for solution.
During the redevelopment the number of study spaces was also increased, but the redevelopment clearly increased the popularity of the Library, and we've seen an increase in the number of people using the Library. Again we will be looking at ways we can increase the seating capacity of the Library, but we're limited by the size of the building.
Student feedback of all these issues is important to us as it allows us to demonstrate what students would like to see improved.
