Thank you for completing a "You said, We did" card recently, apologies for the delay in responding.
Firstly, thank you for letting us know that you love the Library, it always makes us happy when we hear that!
Thanks also for your feedback on the Group Study Rooms. Currently there are no plans to increase the number of rooms, primarily because to do so would result in a reduction of the number of study spaces we could provide. That said the Group Study Rooms are well used and an in-demand service - if we could get a bigger library, we'd definitely add more.
The bookings procedure for the Group Study Rooms falls down when people don't book in when they use the rooms. We've tried to make it clear, using the signage on the doors, that if students want to use an available room then they must swipe their card, this is the only way that the bookings system will know that the room is in use. If you've booked a room, and you arrive to find someone in it, please speak to staff at the Library Helpdesk who will take the time to ensure that those who haven't scanned their cards are aware of the reason why they need to do this.
Many people have raised the question of why we haven't provided power at all the desks in the silent study floors. All the desks on level 2 have power sockets, and on Levels 3 and 4 we have power at all the desks around the periphery. We don't have power at the tables in the core of levels 3 and 4 because we have concrete floors, preventing us delivery power to these desks. Our colleagues in Estates are investigating solutions, and we hope to be able to increase power socket provision soon.
Thanks again for taking the time to let us know your views.
