Thank you for completing a “You said, We did” card recently asking that the Library be open 24 hours during the exams and revision period. We’ve run two trials of 24 hour opening in the past; one for two weeks during the exams, and again for the second week of revision and the first week of exams. Whilst students were very enthusiastic about this, what we found was that their use of the Library dropped significantly in the early hours of the morning, picking up again at 8am. As a result we have extended our opening hours to ensure we keep the library open when we have evidence it will be used, extending beyond that would involve additional costs, if we were to request additional funding to open longer, we’d need evidence that there was sufficient demand to justify the additional costs.
We recently increased our opening hours to ensure that the library would be open from 08.00-02.00 7-days a week in response to student demand, and as we continue to monitor both usage and demand there may be scope in the future for us to increase our opening hours further.
The University also provides access to 24 hour IT facilities, you’ll find the details of where these are located on this map. The Student Union has also provided a map of additional study spaces you might want to consider.
Thanks again for your suggestion.
