Thank you for completing a “You said, We did” card recently asking that we ensure that Taught Postgraduates use Martyrs only at the times agreed.    As you correctly point out this should be after 5pm Monday-Friday and at weekends, as these were the times when the Research Reading Room was least used.

I’m sorry that you’ve found that the agreed times haven’t been adhered to.  Both before and during this trial we have checked that the entry system only allows access at the agreed time, so we’re not sure how those with restricted access have been able to gain access beyond the agreed times.

Recently the Proctor send an email to all potential trial access users, to remind them of the times they can access the Research Reading room, and highlighting the variation in rules between the Main Library and the Research Reading Room, so we hope this has had a beneficial effect.  If you are aware of anyone using the Research Reading Room who should not have access, you can  notify the Library by emailing Library@st-andrews.ac.uk or by using our text service, text the details of the issue to 07740 421569, this can also be used to notify Library staff of issues causing disturbance, including noise, eating, etc.  and we’ll investigate.

I’m sorry to hear that you’ve found these problems have had a significant impact on the work atmosphere at Martyrs, we hope that the situation has improved.  The extended access is being provided on a trial basis, and we will take into consideration all the feedback we receive as we look at how to provide services throughout the Library.

Many thanks

Sharon
