As the Library continues to add to its collections, it's necessary to make space on the shelves for newer materials. To do this, we move items which have been borrowed less frequently off the main shelves and into the Library Store.
As well as older materials, a proportion of new materials may also be held in the Store - this material has a brief catalogue record, allowing it to be recalled whilst we complete a full catalogue record, and make space for it in the main collection, making it available much more quickly than it would previously have been.
Although items are held in the Store you can still borrow them!
Identifying materials in the store:
Items in the Store will have the location Main Library Store in SAULCAT, and the status Available for Recall. You can recall these in the same way as you do an item which is out on loan to another user.
If you haven't already, you'll be asked to Login to recall an item, use your University Login, or your barcode and password to log in - if you experience any problems logging in please email firstname.lastname@example.org letting us know what you were needing to recall.
Once logged in, select the copy you want to recall and click "Request selected item"
How long will I have to wait?
The recall service runs Monday - Friday, and items will normally be available for you to collect the afternoon following the day of your request. Currently there is no recall service on Saturdays or Sundays, so any requests placed on Friday, Saturday or Sunday should be available the following Monday afternoon.
Occasionally it may take longer for items to be supplied - if this is the case we'll email to let you know when you can expect the item and the reason for the delay. Please check your university email account for updates.
If an item with the Location of "Main Lib Store" is already out on loan, you can recall it and when it's returned we'll let you know it's ready for collection - the due date will show on SAULCAT.
How will I know when my item is ready for collection?
The Library will email you to let you know when your item is ready for collection, and where to collect it from. If you need the item urgently you can also check your Library Record, any items waiting for collection will show on your record.
Where do I collect Store materials from?
Most items can be collected from the Holds shelf in the Short Loans area of the Library. Occassionally, you may need to collect materials from the staff at the Library Helpdesk. If this is the case, we'll email you to let you know. Please note you can only collect materials held for you at the Library Helpdesk when the Helpdesk is open.
Can everything in the Store be borrowed?
Most items can be borrowed, however there are some materials which are for reference use only. Some reference only materials will have a status of Store-Ref - these can still be recalled, but you will need to use them in the Library. Some of the materials in the Store may need to be consulted in the Special Collections Reading Room. If an item is for reference use only, we'll email to let you know, and advise of any restriction in terms of where the item can be consulted.
