Q. Martyrs has been absolutely ruined!

Thanks for your comments.  I'm sorry that you feel that we have ruined the Martyrs reading room by allowing other postgraduate students in all the time.  This is the first time since we opened Martyrs in 2013 that we have tried this approach.

I agree that the space is busier than last year but during that session we received many complaints from PGT students who were unhappy about being excluded from a reading room at times when it was clearly underused (e.g. often only a third or half full during the day) and they were struggling to find space in other libraries.

The decision to allow PGTs into Martyrs on a full time basis from September was reached in conjunction with the Principal's Office and we will be retaining the current arrangement until Christmas, at which point it will be reviewed.  If the decision is made to continue with the access on a permanent basis, it may be that we need additional staff in order to more regularly monitor usage and behaviour.

Thanks again for your comments.  I'd be happy with you in person to discuss your feedback if you'd like to get back in touch with your name and contact details.

Best wishes
