Q. Why is there no short loan collection in 2020/21

The Short Loan Collection has previously been used for books which are required for teaching, only available in print format and are not available to purchase electronically. The purpose of the loan period is to ensure that titles which are in high demand (essential titles to allow students to meet the learning outcomes of the module) circulate more quickly.

With the requirement to make all essential/required readings available digitally for the dual delivery of teaching then there will be no short loan service.

Current guidance on the handling of physical books is that they should be quarantined for 72 hours on return to the building which means that the usual quick turn around of stock which Short Loan usually allows for will not be possible. It is not yet clear at what point this guidance will change.

Loan periods for academic year 2020/21 are 3 day loan or 4 week loan
