Bloomberg is not available online and can only be accessed via dedicated terminals in Gateway building.
The Bloomberg terminal has a monthly download limit which is remotely enforced by Bloomberg. Once the limit has been reached nobody is able to download data until it resets on the first of the month.
Access to Bloomberg is therefore prioritised as follows:
- Academic staff in Business School
- Postgraduate research students in Business School
- Postgraduate students on MSc Economics, MSc Finance, MSc Finance & Management, MSc Finance & Economics, MSc Banking & Finance or MSc Energy Policy and Finance (access already set up for academic year 2025/6)
- Undergraduates who have Bloomberg as part of a taught module (access already set up for academic year 2025/6)
Before requesting access to Bloomberg you should search our other Financial and Economic data resources to see if the data you require is available. These resources are all available online and have fewer restrictions on what can be downloaded.
To find out if Bloomberg can be made available to you please contact us at library@st-andrews.ac.uk providing us with the following information:
- Name
- Programme of study
- Year of study
- Purpose for which you need to use Bloomberg (e.g. to complete certification or to use data for an assignment or dissertation)
- Length of time you need to access Bloomberg for (if you wish to complete certification then the Bloomberg Market Concepts course takes up to 8 hours but does not all need to be done in one go - please factor this in when planning your studies)
