Data extracted through Excel API is subject to download limits which once reached will prevent further downloads. This is strictly enforced by Bloomberg and will not reset until the start of the following month

Try the following methods to avoid reaching the download limit and to ensure you have only the securities or fields you need.

  • Use the Bloomberg terminal rather than Excel wherever possible
  • Use the Worksheet function W<GO> which is like a spreadsheet but doesn't have a download limit
  • Use the advanced screening capabilities within Bloomberg to make sure you have the final data you need. Find this option by using EQS for equities and other securities and then choose Screening Criteria.
  • Bloomberg Query Language can help with data consumption, This lets you screen, aggregate, and run statistical analysis on a large list with a single query
  • Once you have the data you need, copy it then paste-as-values or save as CSV so you don't download the same thing more than once
  • Use <HELP> to find out more about the functions listed above.

The following error messages indicate that downloading is disabled

  • #N/A Authorization
  • #N/A Limit
  • #N/A Mth Lmt
  • #N/A Unknown
