Q. What alternatives are available when access to JISC Historical Texts ceases?
I have seen a notification on the JISC Historical Texts platform saying access is being withdrawn. How can I still access the content?

JISC (Joint Information Systems Committee) have taken the decision to retire this service and it is no longer available for Universities to subscribe to.
Access to the Historical Texts platform ceased on 31st July 2024. Content can now be accessed as follows:
- EEBO (Early English Books Online 1473-1700) access via the Proquest platform
- ECCO (Eighteenth Century Collections Online 1701-1800) - access via the Gale platform.
- British Library 19th Century (1789-1914) - access via British Library (some content may temporarily be unavailable due to the BL cyber-attack)
- UK Medical Heritage Library (1800-1900s) access via the Wellcome Library
For staff who create their own reading lists or include links to content in teaching materials then we are happy to advise on how best to structure links to content on the new platforms.
Please contact us if you have further questions.
