The University's licence for EndNote only covers current staff and students. Once you leave the University you should remove EndNote from your device.

If you wish to retain your references there are a number of options available to you. Whichever option you choose you must ensure you do this before you leave University and while you still have access to your existing EndNote library

  • Create a stand-alone bibliography so you have a full list of all the references you have gathered
  • Download the references and import into a freely available software such as Mendeley or Zotero (note that there might be restrictions on how much you can store in these programmes so check this before selecting which items you transfer).
  • Access via EndNote Web. Ensure that you authenticate your EndNote Web account before you leave to retain full access for as long as possible. In EndNote Web go to Options and change your University e-mail address to a personal e-mail. Now click on Options > Subscription to see when your full access expires. From the date shown your account will change to EndNote Basic. A comparison chart details the level of storage and functionality available in EndNote Basic (free version)
  • Purchase your own copy of EndNote and follow the same instructions as upgrading to a new version of EndNote.
